Hi. You can't click the FBX overlay which appears on top of the game. You have to press a hotkey to start recording.
There should be some text at the bottom of the overlay like "Ctrl+F12 to record" indicating the hotkey you need to press.
By default the Record hotkey is Ctrl+F12, but you can change that to whatever suits you on the Hotkeys tab of FBX.

Ok, very strange. Can you do this:
- Reproduce the problem. Make the overlay appear, hit the hotkey to start recording, and nothing happens.
- In the Support tab on FBX, send us a report. Include your email address and a quick description.
The report contains log files that should help us understand what's happened on your PC.

it is not recording for me, either. i suspect it has to do with my game being Agma.io, a game that is not downloadable but is instead an online .io game. Does fbx still work for games like this? if not, then is there any other screen recorders that would work. Thanks!

Hi. Try this pre-release build that has a Chome/webgame recording feature included:

See if it works for you. You'll need to turn the feature on first - see the 'Web games' tab in the Settings.

I have had a double problem. Not only does the overlay not appear, the hotkeys won't work!

It's actually not possible for the hotkeys to ever work if the overlay hasn't appeared because it means that FBX has not been able to access the game.
What games are you trying to record?
