ive just installed fbx and wanted to know if software will initiate only when im inside games or can be used for recording anything on my desktop.

Yes, FBX is only for games - the overlay will only appear when it detects certain processes that are used by games. More specifically, it will support recording games that use DirectX 9 - 12 or OpenGL.
