What Programs Can Be Recorded?

I have found FBX very useful for recording from games such as The Long Dark and Divine Divinity Original Sin 2. However there are older games, such as Master of Orion II, that, apparently, FBX can not record. Not being able to record older games is not a big deal, but I would like to know more about what can and can not be recorded and what changes to this may be made in the future.
I ask this because I would like to use FBX to record screen casts of operations in Blender 3D for video tutorials. I know there are other software options, but FBX, as it is now, is very easy to use. Once you add the ability to overlay text with your 2019 updates, FBX should be ideal for screen casting.

FBX can record programs that use Direct3D 9-12 and OpenGL. It can also record some games that use DirectX 8 and record Chrome on some PCs.
High on the todo list is the ability to record all or part of the screen. This 'screen record' mode won't be as high performing as the game recording mode, but should enable FBX to record older games.

Thanks for the reply. Since my original question, I have discovered Flaskback, also published by Blueberry. That's what I'll be using for my Blender tutorials. Of course, I'll continue to use FBX for games. :)
